II. gimnazija Maribor, founded in 1949 as a state school, has retained this status to the present day. Achieving excellent results in both the national Matura exams and the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme, along with offering nearly 80 extracurricular activities, it ranks among Slovenia’s leading schools. The school remains dedicated to promoting knowledge, skills, critical thinking, creativity, self-initiative, and independence.
The school offers three main programmes: the National Grammar School Programme, the National Grammar School Programme – Sport Classes, and the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme.
The National Grammar School Programme is a four-year educational track designed to prepare students for university-level studies. Classes, with the exception of foreign languages, are conducted in Slovene. Foreign students receive additional Slovene language classes to help them quickly and effectively follow lessons taught in Slovene.
The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, offered since 1990, is conducted in English. To date, nearly 900 students have graduated from the programme, with a remarkable almost 100% success rate. Over the past five years, the average IB score has been 40 points, out of a possible 45.
This comprehensive and inclusive approach has established II. gimnazija Maribor as a highly respected institution, consistently achieving strong results in both academic and extracurricular areas.
